Park Capital Improvements
The Community Services Department’s Capital Improvement Section
The Capital Improvement Section of the Community Services Department is responsible for the acquisition, master planning, design & construction of parks and trails. These projects consist of facility improvements & upgrades to existing parks and trails, as well as the development of new park land. The Capital Improvement Section also oversees development of buildings such as gymnasiums and community centers.
Capital improvements are funded by fees paid by private developers who construct new residential projects within the city of Anaheim per the Anaheim Municipal Code section 17.34. In lieu of paying a fee to the City, Developers may dedicate and develop land for parks and recreational facilities. Capital improvement projects are also funded through a variety of federal, state, and local grants.
Euclid Library Outdoor Space
Plans are in the final stages to create a flexible programming space on the south side of the Euclid Branch Library. This outdoor area will include a meandering pathway with benches leading to a gathering area with tiered seating for story times and special events. Landscaping, decorative boulders, and art will surround the pathway. This reimagined space is designed for patrons of all ages and abilities. Construction is slated to begin early 2021.

Funding is secured for this project.

Oak Canyon Renovation
The City applied for and received $500,000 in funding from the Natural Resources Agency’s Outdoor Environmental Education Facilities grant program to install interpretive elements and make amphitheater renovations. We are currently in the early planning stage and will update the website with invitations, updated designs, and other information as it is available.
Center Greens
Final schematic designs have been developed based on the 2019 Master Plan for the Center Greens renovations. The majority of the project will be built in one phase, with a potential second phase. The initial improvements will include the amenities shown in the two graphics above: children’s play area, youth challenge course, butterfly garden, new skate park, upgraded basketball court, meandering pathways, shaded seating and picnic areas, plaza space with shade structure, loop trail, native landscaping, and other park amenities. A splash pad may be phase 2 in the future, as funding comes available.

Cottonwood Park KaBOOM!
Play Area Ages 5-12
Play Area Ages 2-5
The City of Anaheim is embarking on its 13th KaBOOM! playground build at Cottonwood Park. KaBOOM! facilitates projects where community partners come together to fund and provide labor and materials to install new playground equipment in parks. The play equipment at Cottonwood is almost 20 years old and in need of replacement. Edward Lifesciences Corporation is the funding partner for this exciting project, and Anaheim Family YMCA is the community partner. We look forward to working together with these groups, and community volunteers, to create an amazing play area in 2021.
Ross Park - YMCA Complex
The City is coordinating with the YMCA for a future YMCA facility on the west side of the park.
Ponderosa Park - St. Jude Medical Health Clinic

Grass Area
This project will create a dog park (with large and small dog zones) at Maxwell Park. The dog park improvements include agility equipment, new landscaping including shade trees, seating, drinking fountains, doggie bag stations, decomposed granite open play area, ADA parking and access, and additional lighting. As part of an effort to ensure the long-term survival of the grass, and other landscaping, staff needs to allow time for the plants to establish and take root before our doggie community can run around and enjoy it. The park is expected to open to the public this Summer 2021.
Lincoln Park - Parking Lot Improvements
The improvements include a reconfiguration of the parking lot and a new park monument sign on Broadway.
Aloe Greens
New public park totaling 1.2 acres which includes public plaza, open turf area, and play area.
Julianna Park - Improvements
The 2020 improvements included a multi-use turf area, fitness equipment, half basketball court, gazebo, and shaded picnic areas, complementing the recently installed KaBOOM! playground.
Wagner House - Restoration
The project entails modernizing buildings and engineering systems, bringing them up to code and maintaining the facility’s existing use as a tennis center for the community. The improvements will also focus on accessibility and walk-ability throughout the center. New landscaping is planned to increase water efficient by using drought tolerant plants and removing turf.
Barton Park - Master Plan
This project entails a complete renovation of Barton Park including a restroom, drinking fountains, picnic tables, field improvements, running/walking path, and exercise stations.
Manzanita Skate Park
Manzanita Park now has a 12,000 square foot skatepark and an improved parking lot with new landscaping, prominent round-a-bout for easier entry / exit, and offers 9 additional parking spaces. The skatepark features a 5′-7′ deep bowl for more experienced skaters and another 3′ deep beginner bowl with user-friendly roll-in. The design makes the most of a narrow footprint with a variety of grind ledges, manual pads, and grind rails. A mural at the far east section of the skatepark highlights the name and is a nod to the skate culture and the tricks that can be accomplished at this park.
Oak Canyon Trail - Gramercy Section
The Gramercy section of the Oak Canyon Trail, which can be accessed from Camino Grande, underwent a realignment to alleviate erosion and drainage issues. Improvements included the installation of retaining walls and trail stabilizer, drainage crossings, and native plant restoration. Anaheim Coves (Northern Extension)
This one-mile expansion of the Anaheim Coves trail was opened on June 6, 2019. The park includes 11 acres of native landscape, a 1-mile long class 1 bike path and decomposed granite trail, a children’s play area near Frontera Street, interpretive signage, and amenities such as drinking fountains, benches, trash cans, and dog waste stations. This is the 12th Disney-sponsored KaBoom! playground in Anaheim. In the coming months, Julianna Park will receive a complete renovation including a new basketball court, exercise equipment, gazebo, picnic tables, and landscaping. The playground is open and will continue to be open as much as possible during the construction period.
Jacaranda Park
Elements of the park include shaded bench and table seating, a basketball court, bocce ball courts, outdoor workout equipment and passive gathering areas with turf and shade trees. A sizable dog park in the southern end of the park allows residents and the general public an opportunity to gather while giving their pets an opportunity to exercise and socialize.
